Local Search Statistics - Be Found Today
Search is the ultimate utility that nearly everyone uses on a regular basis.
-
Over 80% percent of internet traffic begins at the search engine1; even more compelling is that even when users know the brand or service that they're looking for users prefer to find it through a search engine rather than typing in the URL into the browser2.
-
73% of users perform searches several times a week.
-
Local search and local results are integral to all major search engines.
-
81% of users begin their internet experience at the search engine. Amazing statistic; even when users know where they want to go, they still type in the query!
Being found in the search results is crucial. Google is used for over 60% of the searches performed in the U.S. according to a comprehensive study by comScore in 20063.
Google's driving about 73% of aggregate B2C sales4. Also noteworthy is that their market share is relatively flat, demonstrating the Google's authority is not in question anytime soon.
Organic Value:
A recent
survey by Enquiro analyzed click-through
rate (CTR) by position for B2B sites. Overall, 74% of business searchers click on
an organic listing, versus the 19% on a paid listing. This data is fairly consistent
with past eye tracking (or heat map) studies that show where people tend to focus
on a search results page.
Search Statistics:
1A Harris Interactive poll said that once online, 80 percent of internet traffic begins at a search engine.
2A DoubleClick study reported that 41
percent of web users find brands through search rather than just typing a URL into
their browser.
3comScore, 2006. Statistic is calculated as compared to the top 10 search destinations. See complete paper summary: Search-Fact-Pack-2006.pdf
4A study performed by the Rimm-Kaufman Group, July 2007. Sampling of about 100 B2C advertising businesses amoung the top 500 internet retailers.
